Los Angeles firefighters attacked the Getty Fire on Wednesday afternoon after a brush fire started near Getty Center Drive along the northbound 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass.
Local reports put the fire at three to five acres in its early phase. The Los Angeles Fire Department requested additional engines, while water-dropping helicopters worked above the hillside. Lanes on the 405 Freeway remained open in the early ABC7 report.
Evacuation warnings were issued for zones LFD-0895 and LFD-0967. The CAL FIRE incident page listed the warnings as a potential threat to life or property and advised people needing extra time, including those with pets and livestock, to leave early.
The fresh angle is the location. A small fire can matter quickly when it burns beside a freeway, a museum campus and hillside neighbourhoods during hot Southern California weather.
