The White House says TrumpRx.gov offers the world’s lowest prescription drug prices. Congressional investigators say nearly half the claims don’t hold up. Here’s what the numbers actually show.

On February 5, 2026, the White House launched TrumpRx.gov, a direct-to-consumer portal offering discounted brand-name medications under what the administration calls “Most-Favored-Nation” (MFN) pricing — a model that ties U.S. drug prices to the lowest prices paid in other developed nations. The platform initially listed 43 medications from five companies: AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer.
Three weeks later, a Democratic staff report from the House Energy and Commerce Committee — titled “TrumpRx: Big Talk, Little Savings” — concluded that for nearly half the drugs listed, the site’s “world’s lowest prices” claim is either misleading or outright false. Below, a fact-by-fact breakdown of what TrumpRx offers, what it leaves out, and how it compares to what’s already available.

Congressional Findings
What the House Report Found
From the Feb 2026 Democratic staff report — House Energy & Commerce Committee
0
Drugs with Cheaper Generics
For 15 of 43 drugs listed, a less expensive generic is already on the market. TrumpRx does not mention any of them.
0
Drugs with Pre-existing Coupons
Seven drugs already had equal or similar discounts available through GoodRx or directly from manufacturers — before any MFN deal.
0
Drugs Priced Higher Than Manufacturer Direct
For two drugs, TrumpRx’s listed price is actually higher than what patients would pay using coupons available directly from the manufacturer.
How It Works
How TrumpRx Actually Works
A step-by-step of the MFN process — who it helps and who it doesn’t
1
Administration signs voluntary MFN deals with drug makers
As of Feb 2026, the White House has agreements with 16 pharmaceutical manufacturers, including AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, Pfizer, and Novo Nordisk. Full contract terms remain confidential. See White House MFN fact sheet.
2
TrumpRx.gov lists 43 drugs with cash-pay discount prices
Users visit the site, find their medication, and download or print a coupon to use at a pharmacy. The platform was built by the National Design Studio, a White House initiative set up in August 2025 under Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia, co-founder of Airbnb.
3
Discounts apply mainly to cash-paying or uninsured patients
Most insured patients do not pay the list price of a drug — they pay a co-pay set by their insurer. TrumpRx discounts are cash-pay prices and cannot typically be combined with insurance, meaning they don’t count toward annual deductibles or out-of-pocket maximums.
4
GLP-1 drugs (Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound) are the clearest exception
Many anti-obesity and diabetes injectables are not covered by most insurers. For patients paying out-of-pocket for these drugs, the TrumpRx MFN prices — some as low as $199/month — are a meaningful reduction from list prices exceeding $1,000. Lilly’s MFN agreement also expanded Medicare access for obesity treatments for certain populations.
5
Congress has requested full contract terms — details remain secret
House committees have written to manufacturers requesting the full scope of agreements — which drugs, which payer channels, which price tiers. According to the Joint Economic Committee, several manufacturers raised prices on select medications after entering MFN deals.
On the record — official statements
“TrumpRx is not a serious effort to lower prescription drug prices. At best, the platform offers discount coupons that are readily available elsewhere. At worst, it appears to intentionally withhold information about more affordable generic alternatives.”
Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. — Ranking Member, House Energy & Commerce Committee
“President Trump delivered historic wins for Americans with his most-favored nations drug pricing deals and TrumpRx.gov, especially for patients who use GLP-1s, fertility treatments, and other prescription drugs not typically covered by insurance.”
Kush Desai — White House Spokesman
“Nothing more than a glorified coupon book.”
Sen. Ron Wyden — Ranking Member, Senate Finance Committee
“There’s been a lot of hoopla from the White House on drug pricing, but not a lot of action that will lower costs for a meaningful number of patients.”
Larry Levitt — Executive Vice President, KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation)
“While the announcements sound substantial, the reality is the vast majority of Americans will not see any decrease in what they pay at the pharmacy.”
Chris Meekins — Raymond James Analyst & former senior health official, Trump’s first term

Tick each step to make sure you’re getting the best price — tap to check off
✓
1. Check your insurer’s co-pay
Most insured patients already pay less than TrumpRx’s cash price. Look up your formulary tier or call your insurer before switching to a cash-pay option.
✓
2. Search for a generic equivalent
Ask your pharmacist or check your drug name on Cost Plus Drugs. For 15 of 43 TrumpRx drugs, a generic exists at a fraction of the brand price — TrumpRx won’t tell you this.
✓
3. Compare on GoodRx
Visit GoodRx.com and enter your drug name and zip code. At least seven TrumpRx drugs already had equivalent coupons available there before the MFN deals were signed.
✓
4. Check the manufacturer’s own savings program
Companies like Pfizer and AstraZeneca offer direct savings programs. For some drugs, manufacturer coupons predate TrumpRx and may offer lower prices.

TrumpRx.gov was launched in February 2026 with MFN pricing agreements covering 43 prescription drugs from 16 pharmaceutical manufacturers. The White House described it as a platform delivering the world’s lowest drug prices. The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Democratic staff report, released the same month, found the claim misleading for nearly half the listed drugs, citing missing generic disclosures, pre-existing coupon equivalents, and at least two cases where the TrumpRx price is higher than what manufacturers offered independently.
Congressional committees have sought full contract terms from manufacturers; those details remain confidential. The platform’s most documented savings apply to anti-obesity GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy — medications not typically covered by insurance — for patients paying out of pocket. For most Americans with insurance, the report’s findings and expert analyses indicate that out-of-pocket costs at the pharmacy are unlikely to change significantly under the current structure. The debate over the platform’s transparency and reach has been covered by the Senate Finance Committee, the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and the Joint Economic Committee.
President Trump called on Congress during his State of the Union address to codify MFN pricing into law — a move that would extend the agreements beyond voluntary deals with individual manufacturers. The administration has indicated it is in negotiations with additional drugmakers to expand the platform’s drug list.
This development connects to a wider discussion on U.S. government health policy and the long-running question of how federal drug pricing reforms translate into real savings for patients.
