Senoia Animal Hospital Cha Cha Pug: Family Says Dog Was Alive on Facebook After Paid Euthanasia

Seven months after paying Senoia Animal Hospital to euthanize their pug, Cha Cha, a Georgia family says they found the dog alive on Facebook. The Facebook photo showed a dog that Belote recognized as Cha Cha. Police did not bring criminal charges, and the matter has been referred to a state veterinary regulator. Here is what is known, and what is not.

Rebecca Belote said the clinic recommended euthanasia in March 2026, citing organ failure and diabetic ketoacidosis. The family paid $716.50 for veterinary care, tests, euthanasia and communal cremation, according to Belote. Months later, Belote spotted a Facebook photo of a dog she recognized as Cha Cha. A former employee told Belote that a worker had taken the pug home instead of carrying out the euthanasia. The Citizen reports that the dog was later put down while healthy. That allegation has not been independently established. A former employee has told The Citizen that a cat named Annie was not the only case. Police did not bring criminal charges. Cha Cha’s family has contacted the local solicitor’s office and filed a complaint with the state. The former employee reported the allegations to the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine.

For pet owners, the case shows why paperwork matters. Clinics often ask owners to sign euthanasia consent forms. Read consent and disposal forms carefully before signing, and ask what they say about custody of the animal and its remains. Before any appointment, ask to stay in the room during the procedure, and ask what cremation options the clinic offers.

The hospital denies the allegations, according to reporting. Investigators said the conduct did not meet the legal definition of a crime, and the matter was referred to the state veterinary regulator. The reports do not confirm the status of the state board’s review.

Investigators concluded the conduct, while ethically troubling, did not meet the legal definition of a crime. The matter was referred to the state veterinary regulator.

Why did Senoia Police clear Senoia Animal Hospital of charges?

Police did not file criminal charges after their review, but the matter is not closed. Police said the conduct did not meet the legal definition of a crime, and they referred the matter to the state veterinary regulator.

No ruling from the state board has been reported. We will update this story when the state board announces a decision. Check back for updates.
