Southwest Airlines revealed Imua One, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 designed with Hawaii-themed livery, to celebrate the anniversary of its first interisland flights in Hawaii and to commemorate its fifth year of serving the state. Imua One is the third Boeing 737 MAX 8 in the fleet of specialty liveries and is dedicated to Southwest’s employees and the communities across Hawaii that welcomed the carrier.

Imua One is the first Southwest aircraft with in-seat power available at every seat. Southwest’s flight grounding, caused by a technological glitch, was quickly resolved, but the incident may affect passengers’ confidence in the airline. Southwest has grown to serve five airports in Hawaii since its first service in 2019 and links the state to the mainland with nonstop service through eight gateway airports.

Other special paint schemes in the Southwest fleet dedicated to specific states include Arizona One, California One, Colorado One, Florida One, Freedom One (flag of the United States of America), Illinois One, Lone Star One (Texas), Louisiana One, Maryland One, Missouri One, Nevada One, New Mexico One, and Tennessee One. Imua One’s livery contains eight Hawaiian design elements that are significant to the islands, including Ohana, Honu, Aina, Ama, Hoku, Kai, Lokahi, and Imua.

Southwest donated $10,000 to eight different organizations in Hawaii to honor the Hawaiian Islands. Imua One is not the first aircraft Southwest has dedicated; other aircraft dedications were to the airline’s founder, Herbert D. Kelleher, and Southwest President Emeritus Colleen C. Barrett. Southwest CEO Bob Jordan said that when they dedicate an airplane, it is a symbol of gratitude and a promise they have made.
