BYD’s smallest electric car, the Racco, is expanding beyond Japan to Sri Lanka and Macau. The compact electric Kei car is designed for dense cities where parking space is limited and smaller vehicles are practical.
What is launching
The BYD Racco is an ultra-compact battery-electric Kei car originally launched in Japan. BYD announced that Sri Lanka and Macau would be its next markets; Sri Lanka’s launch was scheduled for October 9, 2026, while Macau reservations had opened.
The base Racco 200 has a 22.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate Blade battery, 210 km of WLTC range and 35.8 kW charging. The higher-spec Racco 300 has a 35.84 kWh battery, up to 320 km of WLTC range and 49.7 kW charging. Both use a 47 kW front motor with 160 Nm of torque.
What it means for buyers
Urban drivers seeking a compact electric car should monitor BYD’s rollout of the Racco. Its small footprint and city-focused range make it relevant where parking constraints and dense traffic make larger electric vehicles less practical.
How far does it go?
*What is the driving range of the BYD Racco?* The base Racco 200 delivers 210 km of WLTC range, while the Racco 300 provides up to 320 km. The 200 charges at up to 35.8 kW, and the 300 at up to 49.7 kW.
BYD’s expansion into right-hand-drive markets could widen access to compact electric cars in dense Asian cities. Official local pricing and delivery arrangements may vary by market.
