A man has died after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster. South Yorkshire Police said the tiger attacked him and that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

What happened

Police received reports at 1.35pm on Saturday, October 10, 2026, that a man had entered a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The tiger subsequently attacked him, causing serious injuries.

Emergency services attended. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said his family had been informed and was being supported by officers.

The tiger remained in the enclosure after the incident. Police said it was uninjured and that there was no wider risk to the public.

Park closure

The park was evacuated after the incident. Yorkshire Wildlife Park’s conservation work said it would remain closed for the rest of the weekend.

Visitors with bookings should check the park’s official channels for reopening information. The park had described the event as a “serious incident” and said an emergency response was under way.

Investigation

South Yorkshire Police are continuing to investigate. No further details about the man, the circumstances of his entry, or the tiger involved have been released.
