Uttar Pradesh’s Cabinet has approved a proposal to name the Noida International Airport at Jewar after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The airport’s IATA code, DXN, remains unchanged.

What was approved

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved a proposal to rename Noida International Airport at Jewar as “Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar.” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the decision on October 9.

The airport is developed under a concession arrangement involving the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority and Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International. Commercial flight operations had already begun nearly four months before the renaming announcement.

What it means for travelers

While the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the renaming, travelers should note that the airport’s internationally registered IATA code remains DXN. The renaming does not change the code used in flight booking, airline operations and navigation systems.

How airport renaming works

*What is the official procedure to rename an airport in India?* A state government may pass a proposal to rename an airport. The proposal is then considered through the relevant central government process, including approval by the Union government and formal notification. The exact process and timing depend on the airport and the decision under consideration.

The renaming marks the completion of 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public life, according to the Chief Minister.
