Karmactive TeamNoida’s first skywalk opened to the public on Rakshabandhan, connecting the Blue Line metro station at Sector-52 with the Aqua Line station at Sector-51. This 33-crore infrastructure project eliminates the need for pedestrians to cross busy roads to transfer between the two metro lines. It marks a significant addition to the region’s growing transit network, which has seen other developments like the Delhi Metro fare adjustments and expansion projects such as the Pune Metro Line 3 trial run.
The structure is 6 meters wide and features improved lighting and strong railings for safety. For people with mobility challenges, the skywalk includes travellators—moving walkways similar to those found in airports—making the crossing accessible for everyone.
The project, which began in 2023, opened for public use before its formal inauguration to provide maximum benefit from the infrastructure early. The government chose to let people start using it immediately rather than wait for ceremonies. The first week of September is expected to see the official inauguration ceremony.
Trial operations began on August 28, with testing continuing over the next 4-5 days to identify and fix any defects before the formal opening. Authority officials inspected the structure, and people started using it during these inspections, showing strong public interest in the connection.
The skywalk solves a real problem for commuters who previously had to navigate traffic lights and cross multiple lanes to switch between the two metro lines. Users save time and improve safety by avoiding street-level crossings during peak hours when traffic congestion makes crossing dangerous.
