Australian supermarket shoppers purchase millions of hot roast chickens every month, often contending with leaking plastic wrap and greasy car upholstery on the drive home. Woolworths has turned one of Australia’s most enduring supermarket colloquialisms into an actual product. The $10 insulated reusable bag — shaped and printed to look like the iconic hot roast chicken packaging — goes on sale at selected Woolworths Supermarkets and Metro stores, as well as online, on October 14, 2026, while stocks last. If you regularly pick up a hot chook from the deli on the way home, this solves a genuinely practical problem.

Woolworths announced the product through its corporate newsroom on October 6. The bag retails for $10 and features thermal insulation and a handle with detachable adjustable strap. The company sells approximately 20 million hot roast chickens annually across Australia. The bag will be available while stocks last.

If you frequently pick up a supermarket roast chook for dinner, the new $10 insulated bag is designed to keep the chicken warm during transit and reduce the mess of carrying a hot bird home. Available at selected stores and online from October 14.

The slang term “bachelor’s handbag” has been part of Australian supermarket culture for decades — a dry reference to the hot chicken in its plastic bag with a carry handle, swinging from one hand as the complete dinner solution for a weeknight. Woolworths has converted that organic colloquialism into a branded product that functions as both novelty merchandise and a genuinely useful reusable alternative to the carrier provided at the deli counter.

Availability is limited to stocks on hand. If you want one, October 14 is the date to move.
