Lena Dunham has announced the birth of her first child, a daughter, with her husband Luis Felber. The announcement came through a personal essay published in Vogue, in which Dunham describes the path to parenthood and what it meant to prepare for a child through surrogacy.

The baby arrived 13 days late, according to Dunham's own account. The Vogue essay is the first-person source for the announcement, written in Dunham's voice and covering the emotional experience of becoming a mother, including meeting the surrogate who carried her daughter.

Dunham, 40, is best known for creating and starring in the HBO series Girls, which ran from 2012 to 2017.

Felber is a British-Peruvian musician. The couple married in 2021. This is the first child for both of them.

Dunham's account centres on the surrogacy journey and the preparation for parenthood rather than providing clinical or medical detail. The article should take the same approach: report what Dunham herself described, without adding medical or fertility context that she did not include in her own announcement.
