Better Bakehouse Snack Company, a Las Vegas-based manufacturer, initiated a voluntary recall of a specific product because of undeclared milk. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall on August 24. The recalled item is “Donutful Chocolate Dipped Vanilla Cake Donuts,” sold in 10-mini-donut packages weighing 7.05 ounces total.
The problem is specific and serious for a particular group: the package labeling does not declare milk as an ingredient, but milk is present in the product. For someone with a milk allergy—particularly a severe IgE-mediated immune reaction—consuming undeclared milk can trigger serious allergic responses.
One person reported an allergic reaction after consuming the product. That person recovered fully. No hospitalizations or deaths have been reported. Better Bakehouse and the FDA coordinated on a voluntary recall. The company cooperated fully with the recall process.
