Amtrak will introduce the first two Airo Fleet train sets to the Cascades route on September 30, 2026, making Pacific Northwest customers the first in the nation to experience the new trains. Each Airo trainset seats more than 300 passengers, and comes with panoramic windows, free Wi-Fi, individual power outlets, an upgraded onboard cafe, and improved accessibility features. The two new trains will run four daily trips: departing Seattle for Vancouver, BC at 8:30am and for Eugene at 7:10am, with return trips from Eugene at 4:30pm and from Vancouver at 4:45pm.
Amtrak said it ordered eight new Airo trainsets for the Cascades route as part of a nationwide fleet modernization push, and the two arriving this week are the first of that order to enter service, with additional trainsets phasing in through early 2027.
The Cascades-bound Airo sets carry a distinct look built specifically for this region: design elements inspired by the Cascade mountains, paired with the route’s existing evergreen, cream, and mocha color scheme. Airo trains headed to other Amtrak routes around the country will instead carry the national red, white, and blue branding shared across the wider fleet.
Amtrak plans to roll out 83 new Airo trainsets nationwide. The Northeast Regional route is among the next deployments, where a set recently began testing.
