The BJP-JD(S) alliance has won all four Karnataka Legislative Council seats contested on October 23. The BJP retained three seats and the JD(S) won one, while Congress failed to win any of the four.

The BJP won the North-East Teachers’, South-East Graduates’ and West Graduates’ constituencies. The JD(S), backed by the BJP, won the Bengaluru Teachers’ constituency from Congress.

The result is a political setback for the ruling Congress, but it does not change the party’s majority in the 75-member Karnataka Legislative Council. Congress has 38 members, the BJP 24, the JD(S) six, and there is one Independent member and Chairman Saleem Ahmed. Five government-nomination seats are vacant.

While MLC election losses do not directly threaten the survival of a state government, they can affect the political balance in a Legislative Council. In this case, the four-seat result strengthens the opposition alliance but leaves Congress’s existing majority intact.

The MLC election results 2026 were still being declared in some constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra when early results were published. This article should be updated only with the final returning-officer declarations for those states.

In Uttar Pradesh, reporting during counting recorded BJP leads or wins in several seats and Samajwadi Party wins in others, with some results still awaited. Bihar and Maharashtra also recorded mixed outcomes during counting. Those tallies should not be presented as final until officially declared.
