If you bought an M&S salad or pesto, or a Tesco Pinch curry with pistachios on the pack, check your fridge before you eat anything tonight. Greencore is recalling five products over salmonella found in pistachio nuts, and some may still be in home fridges. Here is exactly which products are named, what to do with them and how to get your money back.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) published the pistachio recall on 9 October 2026. Ireland’s food safety authority, the FSAI, issued its own recall for the three M&S products on 8 October. Greencore, the manufacturer, is recalling five products because Salmonella, a bacteria that causes food poisoning, was found in pistachio nuts used as an ingredient. Three products are sold at M&S and two, under the Pinch brand, at Tesco. The product codes and use-by dates are listed below.

If you have any of these products, do not eat them. The FSA’s advice is: “If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where you purchased it where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt.” Salmonella symptoms usually include fever, diarrhoea and stomach cramps. The FSA advises anyone with symptoms to stay away from work, school or nursery until they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours.

Pistachio recall: products and use-by dates

Match the product name, pack size, product code and use-by date on your packaging against this list.

  • M&S Super Nutty Wholefood with a Soy & Ginger Dressing, 200g, product code 00797016, all use-by dates up to 10 October.
  • M&S Nutrient Dense Nutty Super Wholefood, 285g, product code 00961035, all use-by dates up to 11 October.
  • M&S Fresh Collection Pistachio Pesto, 115g, product code 29526743, all use-by dates up to 13 October.
  • Pinch Pan Poppin’ Chicken Pasanda & Nutty Pilau Rice, 400g, product code 5051873005819, all use-by dates up to 10 October.
  • Pinch Bangin’ Butter Chicken & Nutty Pilau Rice, 400g, product code 5051873005796, all use-by dates up to 10 October.

M&S says only the displayed date codes are affected and no other M&S products are involved. In its customer notice, M&S said: “Please do not consume this product.” Pinch products are sold exclusively through Tesco, and both Pinch and M&S say affected products can be returned to the nearest store for a full refund with no receipt required.

All five products are made by Greencore, and the contamination was found in an ingredient, pistachio nuts. That is why products from two different supermarkets are involved. If you ate a recalled product and feel unwell, contact your GP or NHS 111 and tell them what you ate.

Can I get a refund at Tesco or M&S without a receipt for recalled items? Yes, for these five products. The FSA’s notice says shoppers will be given a full refund and do not need their receipt, and M&S and Pinch say the same in their customer notices. Return the product to the store where you bought it.

Five products from M&S and Tesco are recalled because Salmonella was found in pistachio nuts used as an ingredient. Check the product code and use-by date, do not eat anything affected, and return it for a full refund with no receipt needed. Check back for updates.
