Johan Eliasch, Swedish-born tycoon, had purchased 400,000 acres of the Amazonian rainforest. After buying it, he said, to save it, to conserve its plants and wildlife &, by preserving old-growth forest, to do his contribution towards climate change.

The land, in Amazon, belonged to a logging company, Gethal Amazonas, they obviously were reducing the forest cover. “I closed the forestry operation down and laid off 1,000 people.” mentioned Johan.

As Eliasch says “The Amazon is the lung on the world”, he will also let scientists use his land to explore and search for undiscovered species. Johan’s efforts are an example for all the rich and powerful around the globe.
