Health Canada issued a recall on September 11 for one lot of Novo-Gesic Forte 500mg acetaminophen tablets sold by Teva Canada Limited due to potential contamination with phenolic resin or epoxy materials.
The acetaminophen, supplied to pharmacies in 1,000-count bottles and subsequently dispensed to patients in smaller packaging, poses a risk of injury to the digestive system if ingested, according to Health Canada’s advisory.
The agency directed Canadians to immediately stop using the affected product and return it to the pharmacy where it was purchased for replacement and proper disposal. Patients who used the medication and have health concerns should consult their healthcare provider.
Teva Canada Limited customers can contact the company’s Customer Care line to report any side effects or complaints related to the contaminated product. Health Canada stated it is monitoring the recall and the company’s preventative and corrective actions, with the agency pledging to take appropriate action and inform the public if additional safety concerns emerge.
The recall applies to the specific lot distributed, and pharmacies and patients should verify lot numbers against Health Canada’s official notice before assuming their supply is affected.
