Jackie and Shadow‘s Big Bear nest has a new mystery visitor. An unidentified adult bald eagle spent about 30 minutes moving sticks inside the nest on October 27. The Friends of Big Bear Valley live camera was running. It was the second sighting in about a week. The question for fans is what the visit means for Shadow, who has spent time since August with a younger female, Kaydee.
The bird landed on Tuesday, October 27, and stayed for about 30 to 36 minutes, according to Popular Science and Sportsman’s Paradise. Reports say its features suggest it may be female, but that cannot confirm its sex. It was also briefly seen the week before. The nest is best known as the home of Jackie and Shadow, whose live camera has a large following. Jackie died on August 10, 2026, at the Ojai Raptor Center. Shadow has spent time since August with Kaydee, a younger female. The Friends of Big Bear Valley has cautioned that this does not mean she will become his next mate. For viewers following the live camera, the next few weeks matter. Bald eagles pair for life while both partners are alive, but a surviving eagle can take a new mate.
