Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the GT XX Concept, a groundbreaking electric sedan that pushes the boundaries of EV performance with over 1,341 horsepower and a top speed exceeding 223 mph. This four-door coupe previews the company’s first production EV set to arrive in 2026 and shows how AMG plans to maintain its performance heritage in the electric era.

“The CONCEPT AMG GT XX is the next milestone in the history of AMG and forges a whole new dimension of performance,” said Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG. “We’re bringing groundbreaking technology that redefines high performance.”

At the heart of the GT XX are three innovative axial flux motors – two at the rear and one at the front. These motors are remarkably compact at just 3.1 inches wide for the rear units and 3.5 inches for the front motor. Despite their small size, they deliver immense power while being two-thirds lighter and taking up only one-third of the space compared to conventional electric motors.

The front motor acts as a booster, engaging only when extra power or traction is needed and disconnecting during steady driving to save energy. This creates a fully variable all-wheel-drive system that optimizes both performance and efficiency.

Perhaps most impressive is the car’s advanced battery technology. The 114 kWh High Performance Electric Battery uses direct oil cooling for each of its more than 3,000 individual cells. This cooling system maintains optimal temperature even during intense track driving, addressing a common criticism of performance EVs – their inability to maintain peak power output consistently.

The GT XX can charge at a remarkable 850 kW, allowing it to add approximately 250 miles of range in just five minutes. This fast-charging capability requires specialized charging equipment that Mercedes is developing with partner Alpitronic.

The exterior design combines aggressive performance elements with exceptional aerodynamics. With a drag coefficient of just 0.198, the GT XX is one of the most aerodynamic cars ever created. Its low-slung hood, sharply raked windshield, and fastback silhouette contribute to both its striking appearance and slippery profile.

Unusual features include speakers integrated into the headlights that pump out a simulated V8 engine sound. Schiebe quoted an unnamed executive who called it “the best V-8 we have ever developed,” suggesting AMG understands that sound remains a crucial part of the performance car experience.

The interior takes a minimalist approach with two large screens – a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment display. Race-inspired carbon fiber bucket seats and an F1-style steering wheel emphasize the car’s performance focus. Sustainable materials include LABFIBER Biotech Leather Alternative made from recycled GT3 racing tires.

While this exact concept won’t reach production, Mercedes confirms that its new AMG.EA platform and most of the technology showcased will appear in performance models starting in 2026. The production version will likely replace the current AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and directly target rivals like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Lucid Air Sapphire.

The GT XX Concept represents AMG’s commitment to transferring its performance DNA into the electric era, showing that even without traditional V8 engines, the brand intends to maintain its reputation for building thrilling, high-performance vehicles.
