The 46th annual Terry Fox Run takes place this Sunday, September 20, 2026, in nearly 600 communities across Canada. The non-competitive event — participants can walk, run, blade, skate or wheel — raises money for cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation. Date and how to participate
The national run date is Sunday, September 20. Events are community-organised, so start times, routes, and registration vary by location. In Victoria, the run begins at 10 a.m. at Mile 0. In Thunder Bay, registration opens at 1 p.m. and participants complete the route between 2 and 4 p.m. on a roughly five-kilometre course near Boulevard Lake.

Road closures
Local road closures depend on the specific route in your city. In Victoria, parts of Douglas Street and Dallas Road will be affected during the event. Check with your local organiser or city traffic page for specific closure times.
The research behind the run
The Terry Fox Foundation says more than $1 billion has been raised for cancer research since Fox began his Marathon of Hope in 1980. The Foundation's research arm funds clinical data from more than 16,000 cancer patients, described as Canada's largest cancer case resource. The fundraising supports grants to researchers across the country.
In Thunder Bay this year, local fundraising had already reached $22,000 before the event date — exceeding the previous year's full-event total of $17,000.
This year also sees the premiere of Run Terry Run, a documentary screening at TIFF, which provides a cultural backdrop to the run's anniversary year.
Fundraising pages remain open after race day if you want to donate to a participant or set up your own online fundraiser. Final totals from across Canada will be available through the Terry Fox Foundation in the days following September 20.
