The rocket is capable of generating a staggering 16.7 million pounds of thrust at liftoff. Many of SpaceX’s Starship prototypes have ended in huge explosions over the last few years. NASA is paying SpaceX billions to develop a variant of the Starship to carry astronauts to the moon. This morning’s attempt involved a Starship prototype stacked on top of an equally massive Super Heavy booster.
The Super Heavy booster alone features a whopping 33 Raptor engines. SpaceX treated the scrubbed attempt as a wet dress rehearsal. The company plans to retry the launch in a few days.
