Polestar's all-electric performance vehicle, the Polestar 4, is now available in Australia with a new SUV variant offering a different driving experience from the coupé model. The electric-vehicle maker expanded its Australian lineup with the SUV configuration, giving customers a choice between the sleek coupé with a virtual rear window or the more conventional SUV with an actual rear window and conventional boot design.
The Polestar 4 SUV available in Australia features a 100-kilowatt-hour battery powering either a rear motor or dual-motor setup. The rear-motor version produces 200 kilowatts (272 horsepower), while the dual-motor configuration generates 400 kilowatts (544 horsepower) for enhanced performance.
Range varies slightly between powertrains. The rear-motor SUV achieves up to 630 kilometres on the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), the European standard used to measure electric-vehicle efficiency. The dual-motor version delivers up to 600 kilometres of range, slightly less due to the added weight and power consumption of the second motor.
Charging speed matters for electric-vehicle ownership. The Polestar 4 SUV accepts DC fast-charging at rates up to 200 kilowatts under optimal conditions. Drivers can recharge from 10 to 80 percent battery capacity in approximately 30 minutes at a compatible charging station, making the vehicle practical for longer road trips.
Cargo space—a key selling point for SUV buyers—reaches 1,665 litres with the rear seats folded. The coupé version provides 1,536 litres of cargo space, about 130 litres less. For buyers prioritising practicality, the SUV's extra storage matters for families or those hauling equipment.
Manufacturing of the Polestar 4 takes place in Busan, South Korea, at a facility operated by Renault Korea.
Polestar remains owned by Volvo Cars and Geely Automobile. The company offers both the coupé and SUV variants globally, with local Australian specifications matching the dual and single motor configurations available elsewhere.
