If you put down a deposit on a Cybertruck in Australia, that plan is over, according to reports from 24 October. Tesla’s reservations for the Cybertruck in Australia closed in May 2022. Reports this week say Tesla is refunding reservation holders. Here is what changed.
Tesla’s Cybertruck reservations for Australia closed in May 2022, when the order button was removed from the Australian website (The Driven). The Cybertruck is an electric pickup built only in left-hand drive.
Reports on 24 October say reservation holders are being contacted about refunds. Refunds are reported to come within 30 days of the refund details being confirmed.
Why the Cybertruck did not reach Australia
Right-hand drive, or RHD, means the steering wheel sits on the right. Australian roads run on the left, so a car built for left-hand-drive markets needs its controls moved. Tesla has not given a public reason beyond its notice to reservation holders. Any explanation about cost or engineering is an outside view, not a company statement.
Why was the Cybertruck cancelled in Australia? Tesla has not publicly given a full reason. Reports have pointed to the cost of building a right-hand-drive version as one likely factor, but that is not a company statement.

Cybertruck reservations in Australia have ended. Reservation holders should watch for refund contact and confirm their refund details.
