If you have Amy’s Organic Lentil Soup in your pantry, check the bottom of that can right now. Amy’s Kitchen has voluntarily recalled more than 184,000 cans over a manufacturing defect that could cause the soup to spoil — with no visible warning signs on the outside.
The recall covers 15,350 cases — 184,200 cans total — of Amy’s Organic Lentil Soup – Light in Sodium in 14.5-ounce cans. Amy’s Kitchen initiated the recall on June 22, 2026. The FDA formally published it in its enforcement report on July 15 and classified it as a Class II recall, meaning the product may cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, but the chance of serious harm is considered remote.
A defect in the can’s easy-open pull tab can break the airtight seal. Once that seal fails, air and bacteria can reach the soup, creating conditions for spoilage. The critical concern: a compromised can may look completely normal on the outside. No bulging, no rust, no odor before you open it.
No illnesses have been reported so far. This stands in contrast to other recent food recalls where consumers were already sickened before the alert went out.
Look for all three of these identifiers on the affected cans: lot number 60D0924, best-by date April 2027, and UPC 042272005833 (US) or 10042272905833 (Canada).
The recalled soup was sold at major grocery chains including Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, and Wegmans. Distribution reached 27 states — Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin — as well as parts of Canada.

Amy’s Kitchen is a Petaluma, California-based family brand founded in 1987 by Rachel and Andy Berliner. The company built its name on organic, vegetarian food — its more than 250 products are stocked in natural grocery stores and mainstream retailers nationwide. This is not the brand’s first recall. In previous years, Amy’s Kitchen pulled spinach-containing products over listeria concerns and issued a mislabeling alert for a vegan mac and cheese found to contain trace dairy.
