If you have a bottle of Amazon-brand Extra Strength Acetaminophen 500mg in your medicine cabinet, check the tablets before taking any. Aurobindo Pharma USA has voluntarily recalled more than 112,000 bottles sold under Amazon's private label following customer reports of tablet discoloration, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified the recall as Class II.

Aurobindo Pharma USA initiated the recall in October 2026, covering 200-count bottles of Amazon-brand Extra Strength Acetaminophen 500mg tablets distributed nationwide through Amazon's platform. The FDA's Class II classification indicates the recalled product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects. The recall was triggered by consumer complaints reporting mottled, spotted, or gray-tinged tablets. FDA drug-recall information.

Amazon shoppers, chronic pain patients, and household caregivers must immediately check medicine cabinets for 500-milligram Extra Strength Acetaminophen bottles manufactured by Aurobindo Pharma USA and sold under Amazon's private label. Consumers owning affected 200-count bottles should inspect tablets for unusual discoloration or dark spots and immediately discontinue consumption. Customers should contact Amazon customer support or Aurobindo for replacement options and dispose of impacted lots per FDA guidance.

Discolored acetaminophen isn't simply a cosmetic problem. Pharmaceutical chemistry standards treat dark discoloration in acetaminophen tablets as a potential indicator of chemical hydrolysis — the breakdown of the active compound into para-aminophenol, an impurity identified as nephrotoxic (harmful to kidney tissue) under U.S. Pharmacopeia monograph standards. A product in this condition no longer meets the shelf-life stability requirements it was approved under, regardless of whether it still partially reduces pain. The FDA's Class II classification reflects this: it signals a product that could pose health consequences, not merely reduced efficacy. Health Canada acetaminophen recall.

This is also Aurobindo's second discoloration recall of Amazon-branded acetaminophen within 12 months. A prior recall covered 4,608 bottles. The recurrence points to persistent moisture-barrier failures in the packaging or storage conditions at the contract manufacturing level — a quality control pattern, not an isolated incident.

Consumers who have already taken discolored tablets and notice unusual symptoms should contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. To check lot numbers or initiate a refund through Amazon, search your order history for the product and contact Amazon customer service directly. Levothyroxine drug recall.
