Donald Trump promised a $5,000 “dividend” for US adults if Republicans win the midterm elections, adding a cash-payout pledge to the party’s unusual Dallas convention strategy.
The Financial Times headline described the promise as a $5,000 dividend for US voters. USA Today reported that Republicans opened a two-day midterm convention at the American Airlines Center, with Trump scheduled as the headline speaker and Democrats running counterprogramming.
Reuters-linked coverage of the Dallas event said the gathering was informally dubbed “Trumpapalooza” by RNC Chairman Joe Gruters and noted that several Republicans in competitive races skipped the convention. Polling cited in USA Today put Trump’s approval in the low-to-mid 30s in several recent surveys.
That makes the fresh angle the gap between spectacle and risk. Karmactive’s earlier coverage of Trump approval ratings and mail-voting rules sits in the same midterm-pressure file.
The payout promise still lacks legislative detail in the accessible reports. The confirmed facts are the pledge, the Dallas convention setting, the attempt to energize Republican turnout and the visible caution from some candidates in competitive contests.
