Qantas A380 Flights 2026: Which Routes Bring Back the Superjumbo and What to Expect

Travellers are being offered a major airfare bonanza, with Qantas slashing the price of flights across Australia as part of its biggest domestic sale of the year. More than two million discounted economy and business seats have gone on sale across 101 routes and 60 destinations, with fares available for travel through to August 2027.

For West Australians looking to escape the State, return flights can be snapped up with one-way fares from $249 to Darwin, $279 to Adelaide and $299 to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. There are also bargain fares within WA, with Perth to Geraldton flights starting at $169, while Perth to Broome is available from $249. Travellers flying from Perth to Kalgoorlie-Boulder can score a one-way economy fare from $199. For those wanting to head east, Perth to Newcastle starts from $319, Canberra from $329 and the Gold Coast from $349. The deals also extend to regional travellers, with Geraldton to Sydney flights available from $399 one way.

Business Class Cuts

Business class fares from Perth have also been slashed, with flights to Brisbane available from $849 and to Melbourne from $899. Business fares from Perth to Canberra, the Gold Coast and Sydney start at $999, while Perth to Cairns is available from $1199. The sale also includes hundreds of cheaper fares between other Australian cities, with economy tickets starting from just $99 on selected routes.

Qantas domestic chief executive Markus Svensson said the sale was designed to help Australians lock in travel well ahead of time. “Booking early is often the best way to secure a great fare,” he said.

What’s Included and When

The sale runs until 11.59pm on August 25 or until seats sell out. All fares include checked baggage, as well as complimentary food and drinks, although selected travel dates and days apply.

The timing of the sale suggests Qantas is trying to capture early bookings before competitors respond. Virgin Australia and Rex typically run parallel promotions during peak booking periods, though neither has yet announced a matching August 2026 campaign. Post-pandemic travel research shows sustained domestic demand, with booking platform data suggesting travellers are locking in plans further ahead than before.

Regional tourism centres like Broome, Geraldton, and Kalgoorlie stand to benefit from lower fares, potentially boosting local economies during shoulder seasons. However, the sale also raises questions about the environmental implications of stimulating more air travel, with aviation accounting for approximately 2.5 per cent of global CO2 emissions.
