The CDC reported 6,304 clinical Candida auris cases in 2024, the most recent CDC count, up across 27 states. C. auris is a multidrug-resistant fungus that colonizes skin and mucous membranes, often without symptoms, and spreads in healthcare facilities; about one in three people with invasive infection die. It resists at least one antifungal.

Healthcare providers and public health officials are monitoring this emerging threat closely. For clinical information, consult the CDC Candida auris page. Public-health reporting networks continue tracking this infection’s spread, as documented in public-health reporting channels tracking disease emergence.
