Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration suspended the licence of Gallops, a restaurant at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai, after inspectors found blood and ketchup stains on refrigerator ice, live cockroaches and ants, damaged food packaging, accumulated grease, and water stagnation on the premises. The action was part of a broader crackdown that targeted five Mumbai establishments.
The FDA action was led by Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. Alongside the Gallops suspension, inspectors raided Gurukrupa Dairy Products in Malad, where they found approximately 2,464 kilograms of material that FDA officials allege was adulterated — sunflower oil, vanaspati, and branded ghee being mixed and repackaged as pure ghee, according to the FDA. The seized stock was valued at approximately ₹13.55 lakh, with additional equipment taken raising the total value of the seizure further. Rats and cockroaches were also found on the Gurukrupa premises.

Adulterated ghee sold under trusted brand labels means customers may have paid for and consumed a product that was not what the packaging claimed. The suspended establishments cannot operate under the suspended food licence unless and until the regulatory action is changed.
What each establishment was found to have violated
Three additional establishments were also acted on in the same sweep: Gufran Seekh Corner in Versova, and Dreamer Hospitality and Mirari, both in Bandra, all had their licences suspended.
The Gallops case is significant partly because of the venue. The Mahalaxmi Racecourse is a well-known public gathering point in South Mumbai, and Gallops has operated there for several decades.
