Mars Petcare US has issued a voluntary recall on two specific lots of Pedigree canned wet dog food after products meant to be destroyed were fraudulently diverted and sold to consumers across the country.

Mars Petcare US announced the recall on July 2, 2026, covering two lots of Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor Wet Dog Food in 13.2-ounce cans. Lot codes subject to recall are 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC, printed on the bottom or side of the can. The two lots had failed Mars Petcare’s internal quality checks for the possible presence of sharp metal and plastic fragments and were designated for destruction. Mars Petcare confirmed the lots were not destroyed and were instead fraudulently distributed and sold in the US. No reports of pet illness or injury had been received as of the recall announcement.

Stop feeding your pet from recalled cans immediately. Loose metal and plastic fragments can puncture oral tissue, damage teeth, or cause internal stomach lacerations and obstruction. Monitor dogs for sudden vomiting, loss of appetite, blood in stool, or abdominal pain. Return the recalled cans to your retailer for a 100% refund or contact Pedigree at 1-800-525-5273.

## How to Find the Lot Code

The lot code is printed on the bottom or side of the 13.2-ounce can. If the code matches 613C3KKCFC or 613C1KKCFC, do not use the product and contact your retailer for a full refund. No other Pedigree or Mars Petcare US products are included in this recall. The contamination risk is confined to these two specific lots in the 13.2-ounce can format only.

The recall is classified as a voluntary action by Mars Petcare, initiated after the company’s internal quality checks flagged the lots before they were intended for retail — the contaminated cans should never have reached consumers. Because the lots were fraudulently diverted rather than sent through normal retail distribution channels, some of the cans may have appeared in non-standard retail locations. Contact Pedigree directly if you are unsure whether your can is affected. Check the [pet food safety guide](#) or the [FDA pet food recall tracker](#) for updates as the investigation progresses.

**What are the signs my dog ate contaminated food?**

Common signs include sudden refusal of food, bloody stools, repetitive retching, drooling, or signs of abdominal tenderness when touched. If your dog exhibits any of these symptoms after eating recalled wet food, contact your emergency veterinarian immediately and bring the lot number for medical records.

**Corrections applied:** Product type completely corrected — from “44-pound bags of dry dog food” to 13.2-ounce cans of wet dog food (Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor). Lot codes added: 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC. Contamination origin corrected — from “worn sieve wire screen at an ingredient milling hopper” to fraudulent diversion of lots designated for destruction. Metal fragments updated to “metal and plastic” (both present). Lot code location corrected: bottom or side of can (not back panel above bar code). “Best-by dates in late 2026” claim removed. Contact number added: 1-800-525-5273. No injuries confirmed as of announcement (accurate).
