World DNA Day is celebrated on April 25, 2024. The 12th World DNA Day aims to promote the progress of biotechnology and industrial development in the world through the introduction of international advanced intelligence in large quantities. DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. It is a genetic molecule that contains all the instructions an organism needs to develop, live, and reproduce. DNA is made up of repeating units called nucleotides, and its structure is double helical, similar to a ladder.

There are three different types of DNA: A-DNA, B-DNA, and Z-DNA. A-DNA is a right-handed double helix similar to the B-DNA form. B-DNA is the most common DNA conformation and is a right-handed helix. Z-DNA is a left-handed DNA where the double helix winds to the left in a zig-zag pattern. DNA is found in all organisms and viruses. It is involved in development, growth, reproduction, and function. The terminology deoxyribonucleic acid is divided as deoxyribose, which represents the sugar compound, and nucleic acid, which represents the phosphate group and the nitrogen-composed bases.

With the celebration of WDD-2024 (World DNA Day), an effort will be made to create an international biotechnology event. The event will create an Olympics or Bio-Davos in the field of biotechnology. By holding such high-level international exchange activities, it will promote the development of the bio-economy. It will accelerate the transformation of biotech achievements. The conference will promote the introduction of high-end talents. International academic exchanges and cooperation will be strengthened. The WDD-2024 will encourage the younger generation to love science. It also aims to promote biotech to the general public. A unique platform for industry-university-research-business peer making is to be built. Achievement and technology display are also to be achieved. It is aimed for career development and commercial opening for the biological industry.

In short, the 12th Anniversary of WDD was celebrated at Nagoya, Japan, April 22-24. It was a huge success. Actually, WDD commemorates the day in 1953 when James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, Rosalind Franklin, and colleagues published papers in the journal Nature on the structure of DNA. DNA is a scientific map of one’s life. Watson and Crick discovered how DNA rediscovers itself. DNA is a link between past and future generations. Our parents live through our cells in the form of DNA. Thus, DNA rules over all our cells. This is the important message of World DNA Day.
