Mumbai’s fresh milk supply is crossing another price milestone from today — but the ₹102 figure being reported is a wholesale rate, not a universal price that every household will pay.

Fresh Buffalo Milk Prices in Mumbai: Wholesale and Retail Breakdown

Effective September 1, 2026, the Mumbai Milk Producers Association (MMPA) announced a ₹9 per litre increase in the wholesale rate for fresh buffalo milk supplied through local dairies and tabelas, moving from ₹93 to ₹102 per litre. This revised wholesale standard will remain in effect through February 28, 2027.

Retail prices for fresh tabela milk are expected to range between ₹108 and ₹112 per litre depending on neighbourhood vendors and distribution chains. This hike is separate from the Maharashtra state government’s ₹2 per litre revision for branded packaged cow and buffalo milk approved earlier in August. Branded milk from companies like Amul and Gokul operates under its own MRP system, which is not automatically affected by the tabela producers’ wholesale decision.

Cost Pressures Behind the Hike: Cattle Feed Inflation and Operating Expenses

The MMPA attributed the increase to cattle feed expenses rising by approximately 25%, including green fodder, grain husks (chuni), and oil cakes, alongside rising transportation, livestock maintenance, and labour costs.

For households, the impact depends on consumption. A family consuming 1 litre daily will see ₹9 more per day; 30 litres monthly adds ₹270; 60 litres monthly adds ₹540. These calculations assume full pass-through of the wholesale increase and may vary by vendor.

Beyond households, the price increase affects tea shops, cafés, bakeries, sweet manufacturers, and dairy-product processors who use milk as an input.

Fact Check on RBI Deposit Rules and New Paperless Airport Immigration

RBI bulk deposit guidelines: The Reserve Bank of India’s updated guidelines on bulk fixed deposits (single rupee term deposits of ₹3 crore and above) take effect on October 1, 2026 — not September 1, as some reports incorrectly stated.

Paperless airport immigration: Starting September 1, international passengers departing from Indian airports are no longer required to obtain physical ink stamps on boarding passes at immigration counters. E-boarding passes on smartphones are now accepted, streamlining the clearance process.
