Vegan Leather Made From Mushrooms

2 mins read

The fast fashion trends are causing a lot of harm to the environment. The clothes that people stop using or throw away rarely go into upcycling and recycling. But as fast fashion has gone up, so is the drive for sustainable fashion and clothing.

Mycotech @mycl.bio is a startup based in Indonesia. They create sustainable products, bio-fabrics and majorly specialise in MyLea, a form of sustainable leather. The MyLea is to replace leather made out of animal leather. The MyLea is made out of mushroom and soya fragments.

The leather that has been in use for centuries was largely made out of animal produce. The most common leathers come from cattle, sheep, goats, equine animals, buffalo, pigs and hogs, and aquatic animals such as seals and alligators.

These animals are a part of animal farming. The animals are fed and forced into breeding. Leather produced is a strong, flexible and durable material obtained from the tanning, or chemical treatment, of animal skins and hides to prevent decay.

The leather industry is in close contact with animal husbandry and animal farming. The livestocks are used for many other products before they are subjected to tanning for leather produce. They are forced to breed, used for egg production, milk, fur, wool, and later on given up for tanning. After tanning the animals are sold as meat at slaughterhouses

Mycotech works consistently to produce sustainable leather without harming the environment and animals. They use natural dyes to add colour to MyLea leather.
