Three brand-new 2010 Tesla Roadsters were found in shipping containers at a port in Quindao, China. The sports cars were reportedly booked by a single buyer, but he never picked them up, and they have been sitting in storage on the dock ever since. Gruber Motor Company, a Tesla repair shop specializing in Roadsters, is brokering the sale of the three Roadsters.

The highest bid for the three Roadsters as of Friday was $750,000, but it might rise. About 2,400 were manufactured between 2008 and 2012, after Tesla initially launched the Roadster in 2010. The U.S.-spec cars are still in China but have been listed for sale by Gruber Motor Company, a Tesla specialist in Arizona.

The battery packs of the Roadsters may not be functional if they have been unused for long periods of time. Storage fees that have accrued over the years will be covered by the seller. In 2010, Tesla priced Roadster base models at $109,000 and Sport models at $128,000. Surviving examples in top condition are worth around $150,000 according to the Hagerty valuation guide.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has commented that Roadsters are “increasingly rare.” Gruber Motor Company recommends that the Roadsters be put on display in a museum. The owner is currently only accepting bids for all three Roadsters, but may entertain splitting them up.

The cars will be shipped to Gruber’s shop in Arizona later in May for further examination. The two Sport models are in red and orange, and the Base model is in orange. A initial bid of $200,000 placed on May 3 has not yet been accepted.

Unless the batteries were disconnected, Roadster batteries can “brick” if unused for long periods of time. These Roadsters are considered to be time capsules, potentially increasing their value beyond typical surviving examples in top condition.
