The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has published a product recall for two Flymo lawn trimmers after identifying a risk that a spool cover could break and be ejected at high speed. The notice, published on October 7, 2026, says the resulting hazard could cause physical injury to the user or people nearby. Owners should stop using the affected trimmers, unplug them and arrange a refund.

What Products Are Affected

The recall covers the Flymo SimpliTrim 230 AC Trimmer, model 9708376-01, and the Flymo SimpliTrim 230 Plus AC Trimmer, model 9708377-01. OPSS describes the products as orange and black lawn trimmers with orange power cords. The official notice does not list batch numbers, UPCs, a quantity of affected products or a retailer list, so owners should use the model number to check their equipment.

The notice applies to affected units of those two models. It does not give a serial-number range or a manufacturing-date range. That makes checking the model number particularly important for anyone who has bought, borrowed or received one of the trimmers.

Why Was This Recalled

According to OPSS, the spool cover on affected units may break and be ejected at high speed during operation. The agency says this presents a risk of physical injury to the operator and bystanders. OPSS also says the products do not meet the requirements of the Supply of Machinery Regulations 2008.

The official notice does not provide a count of incidents, injuries or deaths linked to the recall. It also does not describe the underlying cause of the spool-cover failure. Consumers should therefore rely on the model numbers and the safety action in the recall rather than trying to judge an individual trimmer by its apparent condition. Similar equipment recalls have also involved unexpected component failures, including a Ryobi hedge-trimmer recall reported by Karmactive.

What You Should Do

OPSS advises owners to stop using the product and ensure it is unplugged. The trimmer can then be returned to the retailer it was bought from for a refund. Alternatively, owners can contact Flymo directly to arrange collection and a refund. The notice does not provide the contact details in its body; Flymo’s recall information is linked from the official OPSS notice.

Do not continue using an affected trimmer while waiting to arrange the return. The concern is a component being ejected while the product is operating, which could put both the person using it and anyone nearby at risk. Consumers can also see how other household-equipment safety actions have been handled in Karmactive’s coverage of the Ryobi pressure-washer recall.

Official Recall Details

The recall is published by the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards and was notified by Local Authority Trading Standards. Its official reference is PSD case number 2610-0026. It is classified as a product recall and describes the corrective measure as a recall of the product from end users.

The most useful next step is to check whether the model number on your Flymo trimmer is 9708376-01 or 9708377-01. If it is, stop use, unplug the trimmer and use the retailer-return or Flymo-collection route set out in the official notice.
