Ford Australia has issued a recall for 7,222 Mustangs from model years 2022 to 2025. The problem? Due to a manufacturing defect, the Body Control Module (BCM) may be susceptible to water ingress, affecting exterior lighting operation.

When water enters the BCM, front and rear side marker lamps, taillamps, and license plate lamps may not operate as intended. This creates a serious safety risk, as stated in the official recall notice from the Department of Infrastructure:

“Lighting features not operating as intended may reduce the driver’s visibility. Additionally, other road users may be unable to identify the vehicle in dark conditions increasing the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

The BCM water ingress may result in lamps not operating as intended, which could happen during nighttime driving.

This Australian recall appears to be related to similar issues affecting Ford vehicles in other markets. In the United States, approximately 105,441 Mustangs (model years 2024-2025) have been recalled (recall 25V546/25C43) for a comparable lighting issue.

Once a solution is developed, dealers will inspect and seal body seams to prevent water intrusion and inspect the BCM for corrosion, replacing it if necessary. All work will be completed free of charge at Ford dealerships.

Affected Mustang owners should:

Ford will contact registered owners to arrange service appointments. Due to the safety implications, owners should respond promptly once contacted. This recall (REC-006439) was officially issued September 23, 2025. The recall notice describes a safety hazard and instructs affected owners to schedule free repairs with dealerships when contacted by Ford Australia.
