Honda is recalling about 259,000 vehicles in the United States because of a potentially dangerous brake pedal defect. The problem could make it hard for drivers to stop their cars properly.
The issue affects three popular models: Honda Pilot SUVs from 2023-2025 (about 184,000 vehicles), Acura TLX sedans from 2021-2025 (around 7,300 vehicles), and Acura MDX SUVs from 2023-2025 (roughly 67,400 vehicles).
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explains that the brake pedal pivot pin wasn’t properly secured during manufacturing. This mistake could allow the brake pedal to shift out of position, making it difficult to slow down or stop. In some cases, the brakes might even activate when the driver isn’t pressing the pedal.
If your vehicle has this problem, you might notice the brake pedal feels strange when you press it. Your dashboard might show a brake warning light, or your brake lights might stay on even when you’re not braking.
Honda traced the issue to a parts supplier’s U.S. factory that has since closed. The problem began during a production move to Mexico, when new workers weren’t properly trained on securing the brake pedal pins. Quality control systems that should have caught the error also failed.
“If the driver is unable to safely slow or stop the vehicle, the risk of a crash or injury is increased,” the NHTSA safety report states.

The good news is that Honda hasn’t received any reports of crashes or injuries related to this problem. The company has only recorded three warranty claims connected to the defect.

Production has now fully moved to the supplier’s Mexico facility, where camera sensors have been installed to make sure all brake pedal pins are properly secured.
