Ram, a Detroit automaker, has announced that its upcoming all-electric pickup truck will be called the Ram 1500 REV. This name change comes after the unveiling of the 1500 Revolution BEV concept at CES earlier this year. This series-production pickup’s name is more streamlined than the concept’s clunky moniker and acknowledges the period of major change that Ram is entering. While Stellantis, Ram’s parent company, is still fond of powerful internal-combustion engines, it has promised that 50% of the vehicles it sells in the US will be battery-powered by 2030.

Ram’s CEO, Mike Koval Jr., expressed his confidence in the upcoming all-electric pickup, saying that it would be the leading combination of attributes customers care about the most: range, payload, towing, and charge time. Ram’s electrification journey began last year as it invited consumers to offer feedback on what they were looking for in an electric pickup truck. The brand is eager to deliver its first EV pickup, the all-new Ram 1500 REV, to those consumers next year.

Ram did not reveal much about the 1500 Revolution BEV’s powertrain last month, but its long list of features were impressive, including a futuristic design, a high-tech cabin, and jump seats hidden away in the truck bed. The brand also teased Level 3 autonomous driving and Shadow Mode, which allows the truck to follow its driver while they’re on foot. Ram has promised more information about the 1500 REV, and production is expected to begin next year.

While Ram is late to electrification, it claims to be starting a “revolution” with its electrification effort, and it is confident that the Ram 1500 REV will push past the competition. Ram joins several other automakers who are advertising their electrification efforts during prime time Super Bowl ads. The Ram 1500 REV’s launch comes at a time when every major player in the pickup truck market in the United States is planning to release an electric product.
