US Prez Joe Biden announced the new senior clean energy and climate team. Currently, John Podesta is the senior advisor to the President for clean energy innovation and implementation. Furthermore, Ali Zaidi has been appointed as the successor of Gina McCarthy as the President and national climate advisor.

As the senior advisor, Podesta oversees the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act’s expansive clean energy and climate provisions. Moreover, he is the chairperson of the President’s National Climate Task Force as well. As for Ali Zaidi, he has stepped into the role of National Climate Advisor and is the vice-chair of the National Climate Task Force.

In the press release posted by the White House, President Biden stated how Gina McCarthy and Ali Zaidi’s leadership, Biden’s administration took the most aggressive action from the historic legislation to bold executive action to confront the climate crisis. Furthermore, the Inflation Reduction Act is one of the crucial steps in the clean energy and climate forefront. It is also the biggest step as it leads the way for additional steps that the authorities would take (in the future) to meet their clean energy and climate goals.

He further added: “We are fortunate that John Podesta will lead our continued innovation and implementation. His deep roots in climate and clean energy policy and his experience at senior levels of government mean we can truly hit the ground running to take advantage of the massive clean energy opportunity in front of us.”

Moreover, President Biden thanked Gina McCarthy for her service and that he was proud to announce the promotion of Ali Zaidi to National Climate Advisor. He even thanked Gina McCarthy for being an invaluable member of his (President Biden’s) senior staff since day one of the Administration and wished her the best.

John Podesta is the founder and the chairperson of the BOD for the Center for American Progress. Other than that, he is also the chairperson of the board of Climate Works Foundation, and he serves on the Board of Climate Jobs National Resource Center. Earlier, Podesta was the counsellor to former President Barack Obama, wherein he coordinated the administration’s climate policy and initiatives. Lastly, Podesta served as White House chief of staff to former President Bill Clinton and chaired Hilary Clinton’s campaign for president in 2016.

As for Ali Zaidi, Zaidi has been a longtime advisor to President Biden. He has provided counsel and leadership on several topics such as climate policy development, legislation, and executive action from the first day of the Administration and Prez Biden’s presidential transition and campaign. He was also a part of the Obama-Biden Administration held for climate change and energy and has shown leadership as New York’s Chairman of Climate Policy and Finance and Deputy Secretary for Energy and Environment.
