Extra police officers will patrol Toronto’s Ashbridges Bay this Victoria Day weekend as the city prepares for its holiday celebrations. The security measures come as the city readies for Monday night’s fireworks display.

Toronto Police will deploy mounted units, ATVs, and bike patrols to cover the area. Fire Services, paramedics, and bylaw officers will join them, patrolling from Sunday through Monday night.

“Our priority this weekend is to protect the public and ensure that this holiday long weekend can be fun and safe for everyone,” Toronto Police spokesperson Const. Ashley Visser says. In 2022, the celebration saw two shootings, a stabbing, and seven injured officers. Last year’s increased security helped maintain public safety.

Police want everyone to think about the local residents too. That means keeping music down and making sure cars don’t block driveways or fire hydrants. With these safety measures in place, the city hopes everyone can enjoy this first big summer holiday safely.
