The BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept is a result of collaboration between BMW Motorrad Austria and Vagabund, an Austrian motorbike customization specialist. The highly customized electric moped is designed to present new multifunctional design elements, which include a feature to carry a surfboard. The new design is a stylish custom take on the original e-scooter, which was presented in 2021, with a special focus on younger riders. It manages to demonstrate an example of how in-production bikes can be easily tweaked and customized to support a sporty lifestyle.

The citygoer received a fresh color scheme with a mix of white, earthy shades like dark green, beige, and black. It also features a smiley face on the front wheel hub and indicator lights. The bike has been equipped with enhanced storage space, a sturdy Peli case, and an all-new designer rack to hold a matching surfboard designed by NOA. The standard CE 04’s storage space has been increased with a functional top case to increase storage capacity. The concept will use the same powertrain as the standard BMW CE 04, with a 31kW motor and 8.5kWh battery that provides an official range of 81 miles.

Sustainability might be the CE 04’s biggest strength. The electric motor is connected to an 8.9 kWh battery pack, which enables up to 42 hp. The scooter can go from zero to 31 mph in just 2.6 seconds and boasts a top speed of 75 mph. BMW promises around 80 miles of range per charge, which should allow anybody to zip to the beach without any emissions. The battery’s charge time from zero to 80 percent is 65 minutes, and there’s also an optional fast charger that’ll do the same in 45 minutes. However, one can plug into a conventional wall outlet, which will take about four hours.

The BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept brings together work, leisure, and individual flair, without undermining each other. The surfboard isn’t just a piece of sports equipment; it’s also a metaphor for a sustainable lifestyle, be it urban or rural. Sadly, the “very cool one-off” will never hit the market for customers. The regular 2022 BMW CE 04 starts at $11,795, and one can always buy it and add a Peli case and brackets personally.
