The US Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a recall of ready-to-eat pickled chicken and goat products by Indus Foods LLC, trading as Gangothri Foods, after the products were found to have been produced without undergoing required FSIS inspection.

FSIS announced the recall on August 17, 2026. The Austin, Texas-based company recalled approximately 1,626 pounds of ready-to-eat pickled products. Affected items are sold in 8-ounce glass jars under the Gangothri brand: Gangothri Goat Pickle, Gangothri Gongura Goat Pickle, Gangothri Chicken Pickle, and Gangothri Gongura Chicken Pickle. The products were sold to restaurants, retail locations, distributors, and directly to consumers online. FSIS classified the recall at Class I, its highest health risk level, because the products were not produced under FSIS inspection protocols that verify safety during processing. No confirmed illnesses have been linked to the products at this stage.

Check your refrigerator, freezer, or pantry for Gangothri-brand pickled chicken or goat products in 8-ounce glass jars. Do not consume these products. Throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. FSIS advises against consuming uninspected ready-to-eat meat products, as the absence of inspection means no verification was carried out that the product was produced safely.

## Why Missing Inspection Is a Class I Concern

FSIS inspection is a legal requirement for all ready-to-eat meat and poultry products sold in interstate commerce in the United States. The inspection process verifies that production meets federal food safety standards — including temperature control, sanitation, and microbial testing — at the time of manufacture. Products made without inspection have no documented safety verification on record. FSIS classified the Gangothri products as Class I because the absence of that documentation makes it impossible to confirm the products are safe to eat, regardless of whether they look or smell normal.

Restaurants and retail locations that received Gangothri products in bulk should check their inventory, remove affected items from service, and contact their wholesale supplier for return and credit information. Any consumer who ate the products and experienced symptoms of foodborne illness should contact their healthcare provider and report to their local health department. See the [commercial food safety compliance guide](#) on Karmactive for applicable FSIS reporting obligations.

**Can cooking make uninspected meat products safe to eat?**

FSIS advises against consuming uninspected products regardless of cooking method. The concern is not only microbial — it is that there is no record of the conditions under which the product was manufactured. Without inspection documentation, there is no way to verify the safety of the production process. Dispose of or return all recalled jars without opening them.

**Corrections applied:** Product type completely corrected — from “wholesale pre-cooked poultry in bulk institutional catering packages” to “ready-to-eat pickled chicken and goat products in 8-oz glass jars.” Company full name added: Indus Foods LLC DBA Gangothri Foods, Austin, Texas. Recall reason corrected throughout — from “listeria contamination and temperature control breaches” to “produced without the benefit of FSIS inspection.” Weight: approximately 1,626 pounds. UK FSA reference removed (confirmed as FSIS-US only). The “heat-tolerant toxins” and listeria-specific clinical advice removed. Recall date corrected to August 17, 2026. Product names added: Gangothri Goat Pickle, Gangothri Gongura Goat Pickle, Gangothri Chicken Pickle, Gangothri Gongura Chicken Pickle.
