Southbound 1 Service Changes
Riders on the 1 line should be aware of several planned service changes. The bypass described below is already in effect, while the other changes remain planned.
Southbound 1 trains bypass 125th Street from October 24 through December 18, 2026. The bypass coincides with platform and structural-steel rehabilitation work at the station. Southbound 1 trains do not stop at 125th Street during this period.
On weekdays, riders heading southbound can continue to 116th Street and reverse direction within fare control, which means they do not need to exit the paid area to change direction.
On weekends, riders can reverse direction at 96th Street instead. The weekend option at 96th Street is the alternative to the weekday reversal at 116th Street. Downtown 1 trains run express between 137th Street and 96th Street during that time.
Separately, the J and M lines have five weekends of suspended service between Myrtle Avenue and Manhattan. The suspension is for switch replacement. Those suspended weekends are separate from the 1 line changes described above.
MTA shuttle routing may require a paper GO Ticket from a station agent before exiting. Procedures must be confirmed at the station.
A northbound phase is planned for mid-January through March 2027, subject to MTA advisories. Riders should watch for official notices as the schedule approaches, since the timing may change.
For Harlem trips, possible alternatives include the M4, M104, and M125. Riders should check live MTA service before relying on any of them, since routes and availability can change. Each alternative should be confirmed through live MTA service information rather than assumed to be available.
Because the planned phases are subject to MTA advisories, riders should verify each detail before traveling.
Service details summarized here are subject to MTA advisories, and procedures must be confirmed at the relevant station.
