A rumor has been spreading among Indian farmers for months: the PM-KISAN benefit is increasing to ₹10,000. It’s not true. The official benefit remains ₹6,000 per year, paid in three installments of ₹2,000 each.
The Ministry of Agriculture has repeatedly clarified this. The 24th instalment is coming, but it will follow the established pattern. Farmers who are eligible will receive ₹2,000 as part of the regular distribution cycle.
Here’s where confusion might occur. Some farmers receive ₹4,000 or ₹6,000 in a single payment. This happens when earlier installments were held back pending completion of mandatory verification steps. If a farmer’s account was flagged for e-KYC (electronic Know-Your-Customer verification), Aadhaar linking, or land record seeding issues, the government doesn’t release funds until those requirements are met. Once everything is updated, arrears from previous installments are credited along with current payments. So one payment might look larger than usual, but it’s actually multiple installments being released together.
The eligibility criteria for PM-KISAN apply to eligible landholding farmer families with cultivable land, subject to the scheme’s exclusion criteria. Excluded farmers include institutional landholders, government employees, and pensioners receiving ₹10,000 or more monthly pension.
What is confirmed? The government approved continuation of PM-KISAN through 2030-31, with a financial commitment of ₹3.15 lakh crore. This signals the scheme will continue for at least five more years.
The 23rd instalment was released on June 20, 2026, reaching over 9.44 crore farmers who collectively received more than ₹18,880 crore. Those numbers demonstrate the massive scale of the scheme and its continued operation. PM-KISAN beneficiary and payment status can be checked directly on the official portal.
For the 24th instalment, the release date hasn’t been officially announced yet. Farmers should monitor the official PM-KISAN portal for updates rather than relying on WhatsApp rumors or social media claims.
What should farmers verify? Check the PM-KISAN portal to confirm your enrollment status. Ensure your Aadhaar is linked to your bank account. Verify that your land records in government systems match your actual holdings. If you have pending e-KYC, complete it through the portal. These simple steps prevent payment delays.
