If you picked up Halloween candy from TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, or Sierra Trading Post recently, stop and check the bag before anyone eats it.
Crystal Temptations, a food company based in North Arlington, New Jersey, has recalled its Halloween Chocolatey Eyeballs because the product contains milk that was never listed on the label. The recall was announced on August 31, 2026.
This is not a lactose intolerance concern. It is a milk allergy warning. For people with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity to milk, consuming the product could cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.
A TJX analyst first caught the problem when whey, a protein derived from milk, was found in the product while milk was completely absent from the ingredient label.
The candy was sold across 13 states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming.
Five specific product styles are affected:
- 54040-CHEY — 10 oz plastic bag
- 54077-CHEY — 7 oz acrylic box
- 58008-CHEY — 10.5 oz round plastic jar
- 58089-CHEY — 16 oz designer plastic pouch
- 54083-CHEY — 11 oz plastic bag with tag
No illnesses had been reported at the time of the recall notice.
Do not try to return the product to the store — retail locations are not offering refunds. Instead, hold onto your proof of purchase and contact Crystal Temptations directly regarding a possible refund.
