Face Rock Creamery has voluntarily recalled specific lots of its Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar Curds due to possible Listeria contamination. The affected cheese curds were sold at Trader Joe’s stores in Northern California and Northern Nevada.
The recall targets two specific lots with the numbers 20250519VS01 and 20250519VS02, both with a Use By date of August 29, 2025. The product comes in a sealed plastic cup with a green label featuring white printing and carries the UPC number 8 51222 00528 7.
According to the FDA recall notice issued June 21, the affected locations include Trader Joe’s stores in Northern California (Monterey, Fresno, and all locations north) and Northern Nevada (Carson City, Reno, and Sparks).
The contamination was discovered through Face Rock Creamery’s routine sampling program, which detected Listeria monocytogenes in finished products. No illnesses have been reported in connection with these cheese curds as of June 21.
Listeria poses serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations. The bacteria can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women infected with Listeria may experience miscarriages or stillbirths.
