Audi and SAIC Motor have officially signed a cooperation agreement to launch the joint development of the Advanced Digitized Platform. Four days later, SAIC Volkswagen officially announced the upgrade and renewal of the production base for the new intelligent digital platform in Anting, Shanghai.

According to the introduction, the launch of the joint development of the Advanced Digitized Platform is an important milestone in Audi’s “in China for China” strategy and also a significant milestone in the cooperation between SAIC Motor and Audi. SAIC Volkswagen revealed that the cooperation project will cover the B and C market segments. Meanwhile, by improving research and development efficiency and optimizing the development process, the launch time of the Advanced Digitized Platform models has been shortened by more than 30%, with the first product expected to be launched in 2025, providing Chinese consumers with Audi’s new generation of luxurious intelligent electric vehicles more efficiently and quickly.

“We have a clear and common goal: to combine the best of our two companies to the full advantage of our Chinese customers with Audi’s premium experience and SAIC’s innovation speed in China. Through the partnership with SAIC, we will significantly accelerate our local electrification strategy,” said AUDI AG CEO Gernot Döllner.

Anting, Shanghai is SAIC Volkswagen’s oldest and largest vehicle production base. In 2020, the Anting New Energy Vehicle Factory, with an investment of 17 billion yuan, was officially put into production, marking a new chapter in SAIC Volkswagen’s electrification and intelligence efforts. In January 2024, SAIC Volkswagen and Anting Town formally signed a strategic cooperation agreement for a new automotive industry ecosystem.

“With Audi’s strong premium product definition and full vehicle R&D and SAIC Motor’s industry-leading innovative technologies, the two parties will ‘empower’ SAIC Audi even further.” said Wang Xiaoqiu, President of SAIC Motor.

The goal is to begin production of the new all-electric model of SAIC Audi in 2025. This move marks the deepening cooperation between Audi and SAIC Motor and represents an important milestone in Audi’s “in China for China” strategy.
