A Class I recall — the most serious designation — indicates a reasonable probability that consuming the product will cause serious adverse health consequences. This recall was triggered by an import reinspection violation, not a listeria or pathogen contamination.

Both products carry establishment number EST. 20001 and were produced between specific date codes listed on the FSIS recall notice. Consumers should check the package label for matching product names and the establishment number printed near the USDA inspection mark.
Why Was It Recalled?
According to Maple Leaf Foods, the recall was initiated after a routine USDA reinspection of imported product found a regulatory compliance failure. The products did not meet import inspection requirements — separate from contamination issues — triggering mandatory recall procedures under the Federal Meat Inspection Act.
