Krishna Nagar won India's 5th gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

Krishna has a short stature impairment, he was motivated by his cousin to take-up the sport. However he started playing the sport seriously only 4 years back. He first won a bronze at the Para Asian Games in 2018, later went on to claim a bronze and a silver in 2019 at the World Championship in singles and doubles respectively. Krishna Nagar won India’s 5th gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

In the second game, the Hong Kong player built a lead and it seemed like Nagar’s game dropped a bit in the first half of the second game. Chu Man Kai continued with his momentum and came back strongly and eventually won the game 21-16.

Krishna has been ranked world number 2 in para-badminton men’s singles SS6 category. Suhas Yathiraj, ranked world no. 2 in men’s singles won a silver medal in SL-4 category in Badminton at the Tokyo Paralympics 2021. Krishna Nagar won the second Para-Badminton gold for India on Sunday as he beat Hong Kong’s Chu Man Kai 21-17, 16-21, 21-17 in the men’s singles SH6 final. He becomes the first-ever SH6 gold medallist in the history of the Indian Paralympics. This is India’s nineteenth medal and the fifth gold in the event.

It was a tight contest right from the start between Nagar and Man Kai Chu. In the first game, Kai Chu headed into the mid-game interval with a slender lead but Nagar came back well to win the first game 21-17.

“This is the first time that badminton has been added to the Paralympics and I hope that India will keep winning and doing their best at upcoming Games,” he added.
