The Italian fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana is finally banning the use of animal fur. It has confirmed its plan to phase out use of animal fur and will be using sustainable alternatives.

Animal fur has a history of use in the fashion industry. Most of the big fashion labels have used fur at some point in time. But the change is around the corner.

Animal Fur industry has been bloody since its dawn. As the population explosion accelerated, the demand for fur too had peaked. Fur farming, where furry animals are bred for the supply of fur, has a history full of animal cruelty. Animals like minks, foxes, dogs, rabbits and many others are skinned for acquiring fur.

Protests against the use of animal fur in the fashion industry have been persistently carried out by activists. Many groups including PETA have been art the forefront of these protests. All of them welcome this new development and hope for many more positive decisions like this.

Italy banned fur farming in 2021, followed by many Italian fashion labels banning the use of fur. D&G joins a group of Italian fashion brands who have banned fur –  Armani, Prada, Versace, Valentino and Gucci.
