Finnish Band Lordi Joins Hands With Peta To Deplore Animal Testing

Pitting against animal testing, the Finnish heavy metal band LORDI known for their garish, horror-themed costumes, for it’s latest campaign, has come together with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) UK. They have partnered to safeguard the ban EU put over chemical testing on animals which has recently been threatened by a Helsinki based European chemical agency. Moreover, Lordi is advocating for the European Citizen’s Initiative launched by international PETA entities as well as many other animal protection organisations. The ECI also demands that EU chemical laws be changed without the addition of new animal testing, as well as the formulation of a strategy to eliminate all animal research.

The cosmetics business regularly employs procedures like as chemical and drug exposure, electric shocks, and toxicity testing, and it is estimated that 100,000 to 200,000 animals worldwide suffer and die each year as a result of these treatments. Rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, and mice are commonly employed in these operations. According to PETA UK, thousands of animals are forced to inhale or ingest cosmetics components, and millions more may be drugged, poisoned, or burnt in all kinds of virtually unfathomable tests

The bioethical perspective of the issue as well as the conservation of biodiversity of animals, led to the EU prohibiting the sale and marketing of any cosmetics that have been tested on animals in 2013.

In a press release issued by PETA, the organisation explained that “despite setting a global precedent, the ban is being undermined by new and unnecessary animal testing requirements for cosmetics ingredients that have been safely used for years”.

“The ECI also calls for the transformation of EU chemicals regulations without the addition of new animal tests and for the establishment of a plan to end all animal experiments.”

Lordi, in a statement of their own said “The EU ban prohibiting cosmetics testing on animals is under threat  because the Helsinki-based European Chemicals Agency is demanding that thousands of animals be subjected to cruel tests. This goes against everything the ban stands for, and it’s up to each one of us to save this important piece of legislation.  Animals’ lives are worth more than a lipstick or a bottle of shampoo – only real monsters think otherwise. So, if you’re an EU citizen, join us in signing this European Citizens’ Initiative”

Recently, musicians are seen teaming up with animal rights organisations in order to spread awareness about animal cruelty as well as kindle compassion within people. Just like Lordi, AFI frontman Davey Havok partnered with PETA for a series of ads in which he condemns animal testing.
